Sultry and intense, Woody Mood packs a punch with a host of rugged woods, spice, and resin that actually make you feel as if you are standing inside a copse of giant redwoods in a forest in Washington or Oregon somewhere. The composition makes use of this impression of height, depth and density, creating a very natural woody accord that seems to float on a bed of bright, peppery spice and extends the warmth of the grain of the wood through use of tannic black tea and aromatic spikenard.
The opening is hot and bright, coming straight at you with the sizzle of acid green bergamot, ginger, clary sage, and saffron, muscling its way into your head and your heart. The woody heart is as cleansing an experience as standing in the middle of a forest and taking a big breath, filling your lungs with the pungent, almost green smell of sequoia and jatamansi (Indian spikenard).
Something about it feels ritualistic, shamanic almost. The deeply rooty, spicy smell of the woods, herbs, and spices will run through your spirit like a hot knife through butter, cleaning out the dust in your mental corridors. A leathery, tart combination of black tea and incense is the bridge that settles you into the warm, smoky base of styrax resin, leather, and patchouli. The final impression is restful: it is all woodsmoke, red resin, and the chocolatey dampness of hummus-rich earth.
